The Domestic Gas Foundation Course Stage Two – CCN1 + Appliances is a 6 week program aimed at and available to all those whom have formal Plumbing Qualifications such as an NVQ or equivalent or relevant industry experience. If this is not you – take a look at our New Entrants Course! A Brand New course catered to the inexperienced.
Stage two of the Domestic Foundation Course is the ‘On-site Portfolio of Evidence’ a required part of the CCN1 Domestic Gas Qualification. Unlike many other Training Centres, we guarantee your place for this two week stage of the Domestic Gas Course. You will head out on live jobs with one of our Gas Safe Registered Engineers dedicating their time and expertise to ensuring your Portfolio is completed to an outstanding level, whilst also ensuring you learn as much as possible about each and every job along the way.
The Portfolio of Evidence is exactly what it says on the tin, you are required to create a Portfolio of all the on and off-site jobs you do during your Foundation Gas Course. This is compiled by taking down calculated figures, analysed data and your personal insight into what happened throughout the job, backed up by photographic evidence of your movements and documentation such as Landlord Gas Safety Certificates. Logic have a set criteria of jobs that must be completed and range across all appliances you will have looked at in Stage one of the Domestic Foundation Gas Course such as CKR1 (Cookers), HTR1 (fires and space heaters), CENWAT (Central heating boilers and water heaters – formally CEN1 and WAT1), and also MET1 (Domestic Meters).
It is the job of the engineer to guide you into spotting potential ‘Unsafe Situations’ and to take you through the correct procedures whilst on-site to correct these possible emergency situations caused by faults or negligence when installed; things such as:
- Incorrect/ Insufficient Ventilation
- Pipework Installation and Sizing faults
- Unsafe Situations
- Tightness Testing and Purging
- Locations of Emergency Isolation and the Regulations surrounding this topic
- Basic Testing Equipment
- Chimney Inspection, testing and regulations
- Open Flued Appliances
- Flueless Appliances
- Room sealed Appliances
You will carry out practical tasks such as the ones mentioned below, all under the close supervision of one of our experienced Gas Safe Registered Engineers able to guide you through all the correct and best practises for on-site jobs, such as:
- Testing for Safety Controls
- Flue Flow Tests
- Spillage Tests
- Tightness Testing
- Room Sizing
As well as numerous other practical tasks. The write up of the jobs is down to the student as they must understand what they have accomplished/ checked with each job, however the Trainer and/or Portfolio Engineers are always more than happy to explain or re-visit the job facts to ensure the best possible outcome with every student’s portfolio.
Once your Trainer/ Assessor and Portfolio Engineer have signed off and are satisfied with your Portfolio you will enter Stage 3 of the Domestic Gas Foundation Course and be entered into your APL (Approved Prior Learning) Exams and, on successful completion, into your Final ACS (Accredited Competence Scheme) Assessments.
